Welcome to the wonderful world of writing in fifth grade! I am very excited to have joined the Mayport Elementary family. It has been fun and exciting getting to know our fifth grade students this week. We had a very successful first two days together as we set up our rituals and routines in the writing workshop. The students received their classroom materials, discovered the workshop procedure, engaged in a 20 minute quick write about their winter break, and spent time sharing their writing with the class. This was a great opportunity for me to see just what our students are able to do, and I was very proud!
Now for a little insight into who I am and how I arrived here at Mayport Elementary. I am a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!) with a Master's degree in Reading Education. I spent my first years of teaching in a private school with elementary and middle school students in Jacksonville. My husband and I are residents of Atlantic Beach and are very proud of our community. I feel lucky to be teaching in this area and look forward to helping my students progress into great writers!
